Leading Beyond Now
Coaching Africa’s Future
About
The Institute
In the ever-evolving landscape of leadership in Africa, where change is constant and challenges are manifold, the demand for visionary and transformational leadership has never been greater. Welcome to “Leading Beyond Now,” a groundbreaking leadership development initiative that redefines the way we approach leadership.
In a world inundated with leadership programs that often emphasise skill sets and competencies, Leading Beyond Now boldly champions a new paradigm: holistic commitment-driven leadership.
We believe that leadership is not merely a set of skills to be acquired but a profound commitment to a set of core principles that inspire meaningful change.
Our coaching programs are the only accredited Africa-focused holistic coaching program that is built to intentionally strengthen a leader’s psychological wellbeing, career trajectory, lifestyle balance and of course their leadership commitment.
Our Leadership
Philosophy
Leading Beyond Now is a dynamic and urgent leadership philosophy that emphasises the responsibility of leaders, particularly in the context of Africa, to navigate the present while consciously shaping a better future.
Developed and introduced by Ethel Kuuya in her book “Leading Beyond Now: The Five Commitments for Africa to Thrive”, Leading Beyond Now involves the commitment to steward resources and wield influence responsibly, while making strategic decisions that prioritise long-term sustainable success for both current and future generations.
Leading Beyond Now recognises the need for leaders to transcend immediate success, focusing on dignified leadership that addresses pressing challenges, such as demographic shifts and resource disparities, while also promoting accountability, resilience, and positive societal impact. It calls for leaders to embrace a visionary, values-driven approach that goes beyond mere survival and actively paves the way for enduring prosperity and societal well-being.

Leading Beyond Now

Be a worthy custodian
A Worthy Custodian is a beacon of integrity, safeguarding the interests of the collective while navigating the challenges of a shifting world. Such a figure is a paragon of impeccable virtue – a sentinel defending the collective’s welfare amidst the tumultuous waves of change.
Be responsible with influence
With the acquisition of power and influence comes an implicit moral contract: to act in ways that champion the collective good, all the while moving organisations, communities, or nations forward. But true leadership means making choices based on what’s best for everyone, not just what makes one look good.
This requires the leader to embrace inclusivity, marrying it seamlessly with the often arduous task of decision making.
Curate wise counsel
Leaders are tasked with assiduously selecting an ensemble of individuals, each with diverse experiences and wisdom, who can proffer invaluable insights and pertinently challenge deep seated preconceptions. It only works if there is authentic receptivity, welcoming enlightenment from a myriad of sources, encompassing even those who are not seen as experts.
Be curious
In charting a transformative path, three core principles emerge: The value of being antifragile, the role of exploration coupled with innovation, and the urgency to shun traditional dependencies.
Tether yourself to noble values
Our relationship with ourselves, an intricate mix of introspection and realisation, remains the cornerstone of our potential success. This internal dialogue influences the breadth and depth of our aspirations, either propelling us forward with fervour or tethering us to the ground.
